I’ve been using a tablet for some time. I bought one of the first ThinkPad tablets many years ago and have used several of them over the years. Having been without one for a year or two now, I was ready to jump back into the tablet game but waited until the iPad 2 came out. The long battery life, variety of apps and unobtrusiveness of the device make it perfect for me for travel and meetings. For those with an iPad or considering purchasing one, I thought I’d share a list of my favorite apps:
Notes
- Penultimate or Moleskine for taking handwritten notes. To make writing easier, I recommend the AluPen or Bamboo Stylus.
- Springpad for managing notes of all kinds and syncing with other devices (see my Evernote v. Springpad comparison)
Tasks & Projects
- Springpad for managing tasks and small projects
- Basecamp mobile optimized site for managing projects
Social
- Hootsuite for accessing twitter, facebook and linkedin streams
- Salesforce Chatter for accessing staff and record update streams
Communications
- Tango for video calls
- IMO for instant messaging
- LogMeIn and iTap RDP for remote access to other computers
File Access
In the, it’s just better on the iPad category
- Amazon Windowshop
- WSJ
Other
- YouVersion Bible
- Bing for search
- Instapaper for reading bookmarked pages
- AirDisplay for turning my iPad into a computer screen
What are some of your favorites?

I have a bunch of apps you’ve named and love them! My favorite app to use on my iPad is from my TV provider/employer DISH Network and is called DISH Remote Access which gives me the ability to manage my DVR away from home as well (with the help of my Sling Adapter) as watch my favorite live and recorded shows anywhere I go with my phone just as long as I have a 3G or WiFi connection. It’s really awesome, I love my iPad! 🙂
Why do you recommend BaseCamp for managing tasks?

I like remember the milk and action method for tasks. I only use base camp for project management.
